Centerless Grinding
In Centerless grinding, material is removed from the outside diameter of a work piece with an abrasive material. Usually in centerless grinding, the work piece is not held mechanically in order to drive the part.
There are primarily 2 types of centerless grinding techniques: Throughfeed grinding and Infeed grinding
Centerless grinding is being used in a number of industries such as automotive, aviation, glass, consumer products etc.
Advantage
- Tight tolerances can be achieved.
- Surface finish is quite excellent
- Features such as roundness and straightness are excellent
- Work deflection is very little and allows grinding of long parts
- Can be easily automated.
